Staying Close to Home

Since it has obviously been cold, I can’t very well tow my trailer to North Dakota or any of the other places I needed to be last month, so I have been flying everywhere lately. I was getting the itch to get back out in the trailer so I thought I would give a local RV park a try and have a stay-cation.

Well, it sounded good anyhow. The weather had been perfect for the entire work week until the weekend when I had reservations. Then it decided to drop 30 degrees and have winds in excess of 20 MPH with rain. However, with my girlfriend and youngest in tow, we decided to make the best of it.

We stayed at The Vineyards in Grapevine TX. It is owned and operated by the city. I have to say that it is one of the best maintained places I have stayed. It is located right on Grapevine lake, across from a marina. They have a great playground for kids, a beach for relaxing (weather permitting), plus golf cart rentals. We took adavantage of all of this of course.

The funny thing about staying local, you don’t have some of the stresses associated with travel. Need something? Run to the house and get it! A family member getting grumpy and longing for her own bed, take her home! ( I wasn’t talking about the 4 year old!) LOL

The other beauty, is having your friends meet up with you and/or meeting other local people doing the exact same thing as you and staying local. The two campsites next to me were occupied by families that lived only 5 miles from my own home. Who knew it was so common to take your camper just 10 miles from your house.

Fortunately the weather has improved and I will be taking the trailer on new adventures in the up coming weeks. I will be traveling to Austin next week and the week after I will be staying in Corpus Christie on the banks of the Gulf of Mexico. Stay tuned for more in-depth travel experiences and pictures.

Thanks for reading, now get out there and start exploring!
