A trip to the coast and to the edge of the hill country

It’s been a while since I have been able to update my blog. It’s my busy season at work. In fact I’m sitting on a airplane typing this now. I will be combining a couple trips on this post.

If you remember, I decided to take my Airstream on work trips instead of staying in hotels and such, with the idea that it would allow me to see a bit of the country I missed in prior travels and to save what little sanity I have left. I am happy to report that both are being accomplished.

I had to go to south texas to give a presentation, so I thought why not stay down at the Gulf of Mexico. I ended up staying in Majestic oaks Rv resort in Rockport TX. This area was hit very hard by the hurricanes and they are still trying to rebuild from it. Many homes and businesses still have significant damage. The RV park was the nicest around, with fresh paved sites and nice amenities. The people are nice in the area and i was told that this is the place to go fishing. I will add it to my list of things to do the next time I am in the area. This would be a nice place to visit at the height of summer. It was overcast and very windy the entire time I was there. In fact, my Chevy suburban tow vehicle did not like it one bit. That is to be expected I guess since my trailer is at the maximum weight limit of the Suburban.

The following week, I needed to be in the Austin area. I decided to stay at the KOA park in Leander TX just northwest of Austin. If you have not been to the Austin area, you should visit before it becomes the next LA. It appears that everyone from California is moving there. The traffic is a mess. The area is still beautiful and is the beginning of the hill country. If you are not familiar with texas, most of it is flat, so hills are a big deal! Lol. The area has numerous camp sites, tubing and hiking trails, caverns and great motorcycle riding. In addition, it has some of the best nightlife you can find in the country.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to experience much of that side of things since I needed to get work done and while there I solved my tow vehicle problem by buying a new Ford F-250 super duty. I don’t think I will have any more issues towing.

I did sample locally made brews and tried several independent restaurants. Take a peek at the pictures for the details.

Stay tuned for a new report in a couple weeks. I

will be going on my longest journey yet, pulling the Airstream from texas to Michigan. Now that should be a adventure!
