It’s that time of year when the kids are heading back to school. My girlfriend’s daughter is no exception, so that meant a trip to Waco for her to see her Meme before she gets wrapped up in school activities.
When looking for a place to stay, my girlfriend mentioned a state park that her grandfather used to take her to called Mother Neff State Park.

I had never heard of it but decided to check into it. The park is really an exceptional place to visit. It has 259 acres to keep you busy. This includes camping and hiking. Part of the park was still closed due to flood damage but two of the trails were still open. The visitor center is new and the park is gated at night. We were not able to spend much time taking advantage of the trails on this trip due to family functions, but I will return to experience all the park has to offer.
Our timing could not have been better for this trip. The Margarita and Salsa festival was held on this weekend. The one-day festival includes salsa, margarita, and beer tastings , plus a concert. This year’s headliner was Gary Allen.
The festival was enjoyable, just bring plenty of cash for the concessions.
I forgot to mention; when visiting a state park, there is usually a visitor/user fee. The best option is to purchase a annual park pass that is good at all of the state parks. You will receive discounts and other perks.
Safe travels!
