A trip interrupted

Sometimes the best laid plans still fall apart in the end. The said plan, included spending the weekend at a local park and enjoying the cooler temperatures. The park I selected is a US Army Corp of Engineers park called Hickory Creek, located on Lake Lewisville.

The park is a picturesque location that includes bike and hiking trails and views that are relaxing and tranquil, which is hard to accomplish in the busy DFW metroplex.

I was able to get into the park just in time, since the park was closing the upcoming week for 6 months to undergo complete renovations. The renovations include updating all sites with 50 Amp service, leveling all lots and repaving the roads in the park.

Now for the interruption part of the trip. After setting up camp as usual, I noticed that the lights appeared to be very dim on the trailer and the microwave clock was not working. After checking the circuit breakers and finding nothing out of the ordinary, I chocked it up to excessive draw from local campers and set about making a fire.

With a good whiskey in hand, the night was comfortable and the campfire blazing, I received a text that someone dear to me was in route to the hospital. The next few nights were spent waiting in the hospital and seeing that the proper care was given. I had to check out of the campsite, so I make the trip to clear camp. Upon arrival, I realize that the dim lights and power issue was not a power draw issue, it was something wrong with my trailer. Unfortunately all food spoiled.

So as I type this, my loved one is at home resting and recovering and my Airstream is in the “hospital” getting the care it needs. I hope to get it back soon so I can get back out on the road.
