Sometimes when you travel, you just don’t have the time to find someplace new. You just want to get in and out of town quickly. This is what happened a couple weeks ago. I had to return to the Houston area for a trade-show on short notice, so I decided to stay at the Rayford Crossing facility in Spring Texas again.
One thing that you never get a shortage of this time of year in Houston is bad traffic and rainy weather. This trip was no exception. I usually always cook out on my grill or the Big Green Egg, but it was torrential rain the two nights I stayed in the area. This turned out to be a blessing because I finally had an excuse to use the stove in the trailer. I suppose I could have used it at any time, but I didn’t see the point when the weather was nice to cook indoors. Needless to say it worked flawlessly and I didn’t burn the place down.
If you haven’t driven in Houston, remember to add at least 30 minutes to any trip regardless of what your GPS tells you. If the road isn’t under construction, then some unfortunate soul is going to cause an accident. Come to think of it, I wonder if they give out drivers license down here in Cracker Jack boxes, because they really have some awful drivers down there.
I attended an event at the Omni hotel in downtown Houston. The hotel had reopened this week after a multi-million dollar remodel due to flood damage. I can tell you that the hotel is beautiful and I recommend staying there sometime.
With little downtime this trip, I was only able to make a quick trip to the store and find one local beer to try. It was called Buckle Bunny by Eureka Heights. If you like cream Ale, give it a try. I enjoyed it.
My next post should be a fun one. It is going to be a 50th birthday celebration held on a 48 acre ranch with numerous other fellow campers and capricorns!
