Some things you have to experience for yourself. Standing at the top of a mountain or at the top of a canyon cliff are a few of those things. Pictures just don’t do them justice.
Sometimes things just fall into place. This was one of those times. I needed to go to Colorado for work and my girlfriends daughter was out of school for the summer. So of course, that means road trip! Our plan was to drive to approximately the halfway point the first day, which happens to be Amarillo, and do the same on the return. I do not see the point of pushing myself to drive straight through anymore. As I have gotten older, I realize that the journey is as important as the destination. You can miss the little things along the way that make the trip more memorable. Stopping at Cadillac Ranch along the way is a perfect example.
The trip encompassed many first. The first time pulling my Airstream in the mountains. The first time being stuck in a hail storm in a Airstream in the mountains. The first time wanting to go to a dispensary because of these firsts in the mountains! All kidding aside, it was a fantastic trip spent hiking and sight seeing.
When it was all over, everyone agreed that we will do it again. Though next time, the mountains will be bigger and the canyons deeper!
