Some of us are enduring the various stages of the Covid-19 quarantine alone and others with family or friends. My heart goes out to those who have been alone through this. We are social creatures by nature and need interaction with others for our own sanity. If you have been alone, I pray that you were able to find some solace in FaceTime, Zoom, or whatever video chat makes you happy.
And for those of us who have been with family and friends, I hope that you appreciate them even more today than when this pandemic began. I also hope you were able to find your alone time as well! Yes, we are social creatures, but we need a place to retreat to clear our heads, gather our thoughts, and to just recharge. This is different for everyone. Some people can escape through a book or writing. Others may go fishing, hiking, or take a bubble bath. I personally prefer either solitude while sitting on a bluff or by doing projects that give me a solitary focus.
Eventually, all of this turmoil will pass and be replaced by the daily grind. If we look back at the time spent and learn from it, then it wasn’t for nothing. Let’s make plans with friends and family. Let’s go on those adventures that are currently just pictures from someone you follow on Instagram or from advertisements seen on television. Life is short. If we must be alone at some point due to circumstances we cannot control, we will have the memories of the adventures and hopefully a group of new friends with whom we may ride out the storm.
Alone time can be a good thing. It’s up to you how to use it.
